Privacy Policy
Writhere is operated by Antonio Scirica, Viale Pretoriano 3, Roma, Italy — VAT IT 16096461005. Questions about these documents: as.scirica@gmail.com.
Writhere is built on a simple promise: your voice and your writing stay on your device. The app does its speech and AI work locally — nothing you dictate is ever sent to us or to the cloud. This policy explains the limited data handled by the writhere.com website.
1. Who we are
Writhere (“we”, “us”) is the controller for personal data processed through this website. Questions? Email us at as.scirica@gmail.com.
2. What the app does with your data
Speech recognition, transcription, summaries and AI edits all run on your Mac. Your audio and the text you dictate are never sent to us, and there is no account. Specifically:
- Dictation and calls stay local. Recordings are processed on-device and deleted once transcribed. Call transcripts, saved voice samples (used to recognise who is speaking) and your recent dictation history are stored only on your Mac, under your user Library, and you can delete them at any time. They are never uploaded to us.
- Error reports. The app sends technical crash and error data (error type, app version, macOS version, Mac model) to our diagnostics provider, Sentry, so we can fix problems. These reports never contain what you dictate, your audio or your transcripts. You can turn them off in Settings at any time.
- Licence checks. To validate your licence the app sends your licence key and a device identifier to our server. Nothing else.
- Optional cloud AI cleanup (off by default). If — and only if — you turn it on and paste your own API key, the dictated text of that request is sent directly from your Mac to the AI provider you chose (Anthropic, OpenAI or Google) under their terms and your own billing. We never see it. Leave the feature off and nothing is ever sent.
- Model downloads. On first launch the app downloads its AI models from our storage. This is a plain file download and carries no personal data.
The app also asks for the macOS permissions it needs to work: Microphone (to hear you), Accessibility and Input Monitoring (to detect your shortcut and type into the app you are using), Screen Recording (only to capture the other side's audio during call transcription) and, optionally, Calendar (to title a call with the matching event). These grants are used locally, for those purposes only.
3. What the website handles
- Your cookie choice. When you accept or reject analytics, we store that preference on your device (browser localStorage). It is strictly necessary and is not used to track you.
- Optional analytics. Only if you consent, we load Microsoft Clarity to understand how the site is used (aggregated heatmaps and session replays). If you decline, Clarity is never loaded — see the Cookie Policy.
- Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider may process technical data (such as IP address and user-agent) transiently to serve pages and for security. Configure this section to match your host.
4. Purchases
If you buy a licence, payment is handled by our payment processor, Stripe. We receive the information needed to fulfil your order and meet legal obligations, but not your full card details. Replace this section with your processor and its privacy terms.
5. Legal bases
We rely on your consent for analytics; on our legitimate interest in a secure, working website for essential technical processing; and on contract and legal obligation for any purchase.
6. Sharing
We don’t sell your data. When you enable analytics, Microsoft acts as a processor for Clarity. Any payment or hosting providers you configure process data on our behalf under their own terms.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your data, and to object to processing. You can withdraw analytics consent at any time using cookie preferences, with no effect on the app. To exercise a right, contact as.scirica@gmail.com.
8. Retention & transfers
We keep website data only as long as needed for the purposes above. Analytics data is retained per Microsoft Clarity’s policy. Where data is processed outside your region, appropriate safeguards apply. Tailor this to your setup.
9. Changes
We’ll update this page when our practices change and revise the “last updated” date above.
